The Restitution Division
collects money for victims of crimes. The
Office has disbursed
- $267,497.76 in
2005
- $375,970.08 in
2006
- $387,307.25 in
2007
- $424,866.70 for
2008
- $469,900.63 for
2009
to victims. Checks
are disbursed twice a month.
If you are a victim of a
crime and have suffered monetary loss, our office will make every
effort to collect restitution from the defendant. Our office
needs you to fill out a
restitution form - pdf and
returned to our office as soon as possible. Please include your
contact information, and include the defendant’s name and case
number. If you need help with this form, please contact

assistance.
After the criminal case
has been disposed, our office will print and mail restitution checks
on the 1st and 15th of every month. If you
are a victim of a crime and are supposed to be receiving restitution
payments but are not, please contact
Lisa Whetstine
to notify her. If the defendant is not making payments, we will
issue a warrant for his or her arrest.
Any victim that meets any of the following criteria can apply for
compensation through the Attorney General’s office. The following
are victims that qualify:

a person suffering
personal injury or death as the result of a criminal act
-
a person suffering
personal injury or death as an act of terrorism committed
outside the United States
-
a child of an
eligible victim
-
an immediate family
member of a deceased victim, a sexual assault victim, or a child
victim
-
a person who resided
in the same permanent household as a deceased victim
-
a person who
discovers the body of a homicide victim
